Abstract:
Networks of hyperbolic PDEs arise in different applications, e.g. modeling water- or gas-networks, road traffic or the human circulatory system.  In this talk a new approach for deriving coupling conditions based on a
kinetic description is discussed. At the examples of the wave equation and the Burgers equation the associated half space problems for the boundary layer are studied. Combining these leads to coupling conditions for the
corresponding macroscopic variables. Numerical comparisons between the solutions of the macroscopic equation and the kinetic solution show the properties of the different coupling conditions.
