Im Rahmen des Oberseminares "Numerik und Optimierung" hält

Herr Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gregor Gassner (Universität Köln)

am Mittwoch, 14. November 2018, einen Vortrag mit dem Titel

"Split Form Discontinuous Galerkin Methods"

Beginn: 16:30 Uhr, Raum 25.22.02.81

Alle Interessierten sind herzlich willkommen!

Abstract:
In this talk, we will introduce the concept of split formulations of non-linear PDE terms and show how to use this quite general idea to construct high order Discontinuous Galerkin discretisations which satisfy additional auxiliary PDE properties such as e.g. entropy stability and/or kinetic energy preservation. The desirable effect of these additional properties is e.g. improved robustness and better accuracy for turbulence simulations. So far, we have successfully applied split form Discontinuous Galerkin discretisations to the shallow water equations, compressible Euler and Navier-Stokes equations and the ideal and visco-resistive MHD equations. In the talk, I will show a couple of examples and discuss the results we have achieved so far and the open problems we are still facing.
